Rosh Hasanah

Rosh Hashanah, meaning "Head of the Year" in Hebrew, is celebrated on the first two days of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, which usually falls in September or October. It commemorates the creation of the world and begins the Ten Days of Repentance, leading up to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Traditions include blowing the shofar, a ram’s horn, which serves as a call to reflection. People attend synagogue services and share foods like apples dipped in honey, round challah bread, and pomegranates. During the Tashlich ceremony, many symbolically cast off their sins by throwing breadcrumbs into flowing water.
