Martin Luther King Jr. Day
The holiday honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Baptist minister and civil rights leader who played a pivotal role in the American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
He is best known for advocating nonviolent resistance to racial segregation, his leadership in promoting voting rights, economic justice, and fair housing, and his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
